MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Health (DOH) said border screening measures are in place to help prevent the hantavirus from entering the country.
In a statement on Monday, the DOH said it is closely monitoring the situation following reports that 38 Filipinos were among the crew aboard the MV Hondius, the cruise ship hit by a hantavirus outbreak.
“DOH, along with BOQ (Bureau of Quarantine) and RITM (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine), is actively consulting with the World Health Organization and other countries to monitor the situation of the Hantavirus infection from MV Hondius. Border screening is ready for all passengers and vessels to avoid the spread of the disease,” the agency said in Filipino.
The agency said that no cases of hantavirus had been recorded so far in the Philippines.
