MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala believes she is more prepared for her French Open campaign this year compared to last season.
Eala shared this confidence just days before opening her bid in the prestigious Grand Slam event in Paris, France, noting significant improvements in her clay court game while acknowledging there is still room to grow.
“I definitely feel more prepared than last year. I think I’ve improved a lot on this surface. Of course, I still have a long way to go, but I’ve grown so much as a player over the past year, and it’s really helped me manage the challenges that come with this surface,” said Eala.
The Filipina tennis standout is eager to return to Roland Garros and test herself against the world’s top players.
“I’m super excited for this week. We do all the preparation to arrive at the Grand Slams ready, and I’m feeling good,” she added.
Despite the high stakes, Eala is choosing to keep the pressure off herself, focusing instead on enjoying every moment of the tournament to lighten her campaign.
“I’m happy, nothing on the line, nothing to lose—so I’m really excited,” she said.
Eala is set to face 17th seed Iva Jovic of US in the opening round on Tuesday. TMT
