MANILA, Philippines — Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to welcome President Santiago Peña Palacios of the Republic of Paraguay on May 11.

“The visit of the Paraguayan leader marks a significant milestone in strengthening Philippines–Paraguay relations, as it will be the first presidential visit between the two countries, building on decades of constructive engagement and high-level exchanges over more than 60 years of diplomatic ties,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.

Palacio’s visit underscores the continued efforts of the Philippines to broaden its engagement with Latin American partners and diversify its economic partnerships, the PCO said.

Marcos and Palacios will have a bilateral meeting to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation and mutual development.

Both nations seek to expand cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade and investment, as well as agriculture.

Paraguay is an emerging partner of the Philippines in Latin America, where both countries share common values rooted in democracy, the rule of law, and a commitment to international cooperation.

The Philippines and Paraguay established diplomatic relations on December 12, 1962.
