
GENERAL Manager Corporate Secretary of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), Eva Chairunnisa, stated that KCIC has canceled the Whoosh high-speed train journeys scheduled from 8:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time) to the last scheduled trip at 9:25 PM WIB. Eva mentioned that KCIC resumed its operations at 10:21 PM WIB.
KCIC made this decision after a 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred at 7:55 PM WIB in Bekasi Regency on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Eva stated that the earthquake notification was detected through the earthquake early warning system installed along the Whoosh route. "KCIC emphasizes the operational safety of Whoosh amidst the earthquake that occurred in the West Java region and its surroundings as the top priority," Eva said, as quoted in a press release on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
During that period, KCIC canceled the train departures from Halim Station with train numbers G1057, G1059, G1061, and G1063. Additionally, departures from Tegalluar Station consisted of trains numbered G1058, G1060, G1062, and G1064.
As a result of the cancellations, KCIC is offering refunds to the passengers. According to Eva, passengers can claim their refunds at the station ticket counters until 3 days after the scheduled departure. "Passengers affected by the cancellation will receive a 100% ticket fee refund or cash transfer," Eva said.
In addition to providing full refunds, KCIC directed the affected passengers at Padalarang Station to continue their journey using the Pangandaran Train bound for Gambir.
KCIC took this step for the safety of the passengers. "KCIC also coordinated with partner online transportation providers who have collaborated to maximize services," she said.
The 4.9 magnitude earthquake shook Bekasi Regency, West Java on Wednesday night, August 20, 2025. The earthquake tremors were felt as far as Jakarta. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake was centered at 6.48 degrees south latitude and 107.24 degrees east longitude. The estimated location was 14 kilometers southeast of Bekasi Regency, West Java. The earthquake was estimated to have occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers below the ground.
According to the BMKG, the earthquake occurred at 7:54:55 PM WIB. Currently, BMKG is still studying information about the earthquake. "This information prioritizes speed, so the data processing results are not yet stable and may change as additional data becomes available," as stated in the BMKG statement.
As of now, there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake. The government is still assessing the impact of the tremors felt in the capital. In addition to Jakarta, BMKG mentioned that the tremors of this 4.9 magnitude earthquake were also felt in other areas, including Depok, Tangerang, South Tangerang, and Purwakarta.
