TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The international aviation industry is now offering ultra-long-haul flights, allowing journeys of nearly 10,000 miles to be made without a layover for up to 19 hours nonstop. Major airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Qantas, and Air New Zealand are now competing to provide marathon routes at an altitude of 35,000 feet with maximum comfort for passengers.

The following is a list of the longest flights in the world, as compiled from Travel+ Leisure and Flightradar24:

1. New York-Singapore

The route from New York (JFK) to Singapore (SIN) operated by Singapore Airlines has become the world's longest flight, both in terms of distance and duration. Covering a distance of 9,536 miles, this flight takes approximately 18 hours and 40 minutes. The airline uses the Airbus A350-900ULR, a specially designed aircraft with a larger fuel capacity and a cabin layout consisting only of business and premium economy classes, for ultra-long-range flights.

2. Singapore-Newark

Still with Singapore Airlines, the route from Singapore (SIN) to Newark (EWR) covers a distance of 9,523 miles with a travel time of 18 hours and 25 minutes. Despite being only 15 minutes shorter than the flight to JFK, this route remains a favorite choice for business passengers who require direct travel between Southeast Asia and the eastern United States.

3. New York-Auckland

Air New Zealand and Qantas operate the route from New York (JFK) to Auckland (AKL) over a distance of 8,828 miles with a travel time of approximately 18 hours. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is used with a full cabin configuration, ranging from business class to premium economy and Economy Skycouch seats that can be converted into flat beds.

4. San Francisco-Bengaluru

Air India operates the route from San Francisco (SFO) to Bengaluru (BLR) covering a distance of 8,701 miles in 17 hours and 55 minutes. Using the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, this route is crucial as it connects Silicon Valley with the "Silicon Valley of India," and is therefore popular among technology business professionals.

5. Los Angeles-Singapore

The route from Los Angeles (LAX) to Singapore (SIN) covering a distance of 8,762 miles is completed in 17 hours and 35 minutes. Like the route from New York, this flight uses an Airbus A350-900ULR, which has a cabin layout that excludes standard economy class. This route facilitates direct travel for tourists and businesspeople from the United States to Southeast Asia.

6. Dallas-Melbourne

Qantas operates the route from Dallas (DFW) to Melbourne (MEL), spanning 8,990 miles with a duration of 17 hours and 35 minutes. This flight uses the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, offering passengers from the United States an alternative nonstop option to Australia without having to stop in Los Angeles or Sydney.

7. Perth-London

The route from Perth (PER) to London (LHR), covering a distance of 9,009 miles, made history when it was launched in 2018 as the first nonstop flight connecting Australia and the United Kingdom. With a travel time of 17 hours and 30 minutes, Qantas uses the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

8. Auckland-Doha

The route from Auckland (AKL) to Doha (DOH) over a distance of 9,031 miles is completed in 17 hours and 20 minutes by Qatar Airways using the Airbus A350-1000 with their flagship business class cabin, Qsuite, equipped with flat beds and privacy doors. 9. Dallas-Sydney

Qantas also operates the route from Dallas (DFW) to Sydney (SYD), spanning 8,580 miles with a travel time of 17 hours and 15 minutes. Starting from August 2025, this flight will not only use the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner but also the larger Airbus A380. The A380 version offers exclusive first-class seats and a more spacious cabin for long-haul flights.

10. Auckland-Dubai

The final route is from Auckland (AKL) to Dubai (DXB), covering 8,823 miles and taking 17 hours and 5 minutes, operated by Emirates using the Airbus A380, a two-story aircraft with luxurious facilities such as an exclusive lounge, private first-class cabins, and in-flight entertainment.
