According to Car News China , MG is aiming to make the MG 07 the best-selling model in its segment in the Chinese market, after the electric liftback received more than 21,000 pre-orders in just 20 hours since the start of the pre-sale period.

According to a report by Y-Auto, MG executives said that expanding production capacity is the immediate priority before the MG 07 officially launches in August.

During the pre-sale phase, the MG 07 has a starting price of 125,900 RMB (approximately $18,645 ) and a top price of 168,900 RMB (approximately $25,015 ). The car is expected to officially launch this month, with the first deliveries beginning in the third quarter.

Car News China notes that the above figure represents the number of refundable pre-orders and therefore does not represent the exact sales figures for the vehicle. Nevertheless, over 21,000 deposits still demonstrate significant interest from Chinese customers in the MG 07, even before its official launch.

MG CEO Chen Cui said that at this time, the company's focus is on increasing production capacity, rather than just monitoring pre-orders. MG's data shows that the 07 received twice as many pre-orders in the first 50 minutes of sales as the MG4 did in its first 3 hours.

Even in a meeting, the deputy general manager of SAIC's passenger car division reportedly emphasized the goal of making the MG 07 the best-selling car in China's four-door coupe segment. Zhang Liang stated that the parent company positioned the model to compete with the Xiaomi SU7 and Xpeng Mona M03.

Car News China notes that Zhang Liang's statement regarding his goals for the MG 07 has not been independently verified.

MG recorded passenger car sales of 20,122 units in June, a 14.5% increase from the previous month and a 187.1% increase year-on-year, according to data from China EV DataTracker. This gives the brand a 1.2% market share of new cars in China in the final month of the second quarter.

The MG 07 is developed on SAIC's Nebula modular platform, offering two powertrain options combined with a unique rear-wheel drive system.

The variant built on the 400V electric architecture is equipped with a powerful 239-horsepower electric motor, coupled with a 67 kWh semi-solid-state battery pack. MG states the vehicle has a range of 610-650 km per charge, based on the CLTC cycle.

The 800 V variant features a rear-mounted 320-horsepower electric motor and a CATL ternary lithium battery pack. This version can achieve a maximum range of 845 km on a single charge according to CLTC standards, along with 5C fast charging.

In terms of dimensions, the MG 07 measures 4,886 x 1,900 x 1,478 mm (length x width x height), with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. This model has a 5-door liftback design.

The Chinese automaker equipped the MG 07 with an 18-in-1 electric powertrain, combining the motor, inverter, gearbox, and power distribution components into a single unit. MG stated that this integrated system is part of SAIC's strategy of sharing components and coordinating suppliers across various vehicle development programs.

The MG 07 uses an mCDC electromagnetic damping system with AI-powered road surface prediction. According to MG, this system scans road conditions 15-150 meters ahead, adjusting suspension settings before the vehicle encounters changes in road surface.

The electric liftback model is also equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P cockpit processor, a 15.6-inch 2.5K central display, an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, a 168-liter trunk, a 697-liter rear luggage compartment, and a 30-liter dual-zone refrigerator.

The MG 07 is expected to officially enter the Chinese market from August. Its competitiveness will depend on the launch price and delivery lead times – factors that could influence buyers' decisions.
