Chrysler debuted the Pacifica Grizzly Peak concept at Overland Expo Mountain West last August 22-24. The concept is aimed at the growing overlanding and van-life market, combining the Pacifica’s flexibility with added off-road capability. This got us thinking, with the ever-increasing popularity of overlanding, especially here in the Philippines, isn’t it time for manufacturers to seriously offer an off-road capable overlanding van in their lineups?

The all-wheel-drive vehicle features a suspension lift of 2.75 inches at the front and 2.5 inches at the rear. It rides on 31-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires fitted to 18-inch Foreshadow wheels. Exterior updates include Arktos matte paint with Foreshadow accents, a Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform roof rack, roof-mounted TYRI LED lighting, an ARB retractable awning, Baja Designs LP4 LED fog lamps, protective lower-body wrap, and Mopar splash guards.

Inside, the concept replaces the third-row seats with a cargo floor panel to expand space for storage or sleeping. Additional features include new tie-downs behind the second-row seats, a 115-volt/450-watt rear power outlet, Katzkin leather seating surfaces, orange seat belts, a sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a Cement Gray and Liquid Titanium color scheme across the instrument panel, door bezels, and steering wheel bezels. Mopar accessories such as stackable totes, all-weather floor mats, a roadside first-aid kit, and a newly available space saver spare tire are also included.

“We’ve been following van life for years, and we know adventurers really value the versatility the Pacifica delivers,” said Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand CEO. “Our Chrysler design studio lifted the suspension, added functional features, and tailored the cabin for sleeping to create the Pacifica Grizzly Peak concept as a test bed. We’re excited to get feedback from van-life adventurers on our newest concept of the most awarded minivan ever.”

Chrysler says the Pacifica Grizzly Peak concept demonstrates how the brand’s minivan platform can adapt to active lifestyles while exploring features for potential future production.

That being said, while Chrysler has a brand presence here through Inchscape’s CDJR (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram), the standard Pacifica should have been offered here a long time ago, especially given the increasing number of minivans such as the Kia Carnival and other Chinese offerings.

Nevertheless, if Chrysler does push through with bringing the Pacifica Grizzly Peak concept into production, it could be the best time for Inchscape to introduce the Pacifica to the Philippine market. Oh, and let’s not forget Mitsubishi with its Delica.
